چکیده

Following the first (1991-1993) and the second (1994-1996) TRMM PR teams, and the third international TRMM PR team (1997-2000), the fourth international TRMM PR team (2001-2003) started its job in 2001 based on the NRA-99-OES-03 in 1999 and NASDA-3rd RA-TRMM in 2000. In April 2004, the fourth international TRMM PR team completed the revisions of the standard algorithms to version 6. NASA and JAXA have used this version operationally to reprocess the TRMM data for the public release since around the middle of May 2004. Version 6 algorithms are applied both to the 350 km altitude data and to the 402.5 km altitude data.

Physical Validation of Trmm Rainfall Products Using a Radiative Transfer Model

The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite has been in operation for more than 7 years and providing distribution of rainfall throughout the Tropics using microwave observation from the Precipitation Radar (PR) and the TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI). PR, the first space-borne precipitation radar, provides height information based upon the time delay of the precipitation-backscattered...

Validation of rainfall estimates from the TRMM precipitation radar and microwave imager using a radiative transfer model: 1. Comparison of the version-5 and -6 products

[1] The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) version-6 rainfall products show the reduced bias between Precipitation Radar (PR) and TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI) rainfall estimates during the 1997/1998 El Niño event noted in version 5, but need to be verified. We investigate consistency between TMI-observed brightness temperatures (TBs) at 10 and 19 GHz channels and those simulated from the...

Comparison of TRMM 2A25 Products, Version 6 and Version 7, with NOAA/NSSL Ground Radar–Based National Mosaic QPE

Characterization of the error associated with satellite rainfall estimates is a necessary component of deterministic and probabilistic frameworks involving spaceborne passive and active microwave measurements for applications ranging from water budget studies to forecasting natural hazards related to extreme rainfall events. The authors focus here on the relative error structure of Tropical Rai...

17 Surface Rain Rates from Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Satellite Algorithms

The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), jointly sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA, previously known as National Space Development Agency, or NASDA), is the first coordinated international satellite mission to monitor and study tropical and subtropical rain systems (Simpson et al., 1988). A detail descriptio...

Very high resolution precipitation climatologies from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission precipitation radar

[1] To investigate processes related to the interaction of topography and precipitation, a tropics-wide (±36 latitude) high resolution (0.1 ) ten year (1998–2007) rainfall climatology is presented from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) precipitation radar (PR) using algorithm 2A25 version 6 near-surface rain. We observe a tight coupling between precipitation and topography with dis...
